Florida Lawmakers Approve Expansion of the Live Local Act
Florida lawmakers have approved an expanded version of the Live Local Act that focuses on increasing affordable housing development across the state. The legislation broadens the types of land eligible for affordable housing to include property owned by religious institutions, school boards, and government entities. It also continues to offer incentives for developments that reserve at least 40 percent of residential units for affordable housing.
Supporters say the expansion is intended to reduce barriers to development and support additional housing construction in communities experiencing rising costs. By allowing eligible affordable housing projects to move forward under streamlined zoning and approval processes, the policy seeks to address housing supply challenges affecting working families throughout Florida.
The changes have also prompted discussion among local governments, housing advocates, and community stakeholders regarding implementation and oversight.
